With rising interest in sustainable and impact-driven investments, Trine is opening up a new chapter and welcomes co-founder Christoffer Falsen as its new CEO. Unlike traditional investments, Trine's returns are tied to solar production; each rate cut by central banks across Europe further bolsters the interest in alternative fixed-interest investments.

Last year, Trine achieved a reinvestment rate of 96%, showing the trust investors place in its projects. Many investors recognise the importance of impact as much as financial returns, a trend further emphasised by Trine expecting to cross the EUR 100 million mark invested since its inception within the next few months.

Essentially worked at every position in the company

Christoffer, a founding member of Trine, has been essential to the company's journey; with a background in engineering, he later plunged himself into the world of sustainable finance.

“I still remember the feeling when we visited our first project in Kenya— incredible to see energy infrastructure being built on a continent far away thanks to hundreds of private individuals across Europe.”

Initially, Christoffer focused on originating new projects as well as handling the finance function of the company. Later, he transitioned more towards the development of the investment platform, leading the work around securing our regulatory licence with the Swedish regulator. After this, Christoffer led the work around establishing the new investment strategy after some turbulent years during COVID-19 when Trine’s historic segment solar home system market experienced difficulties.

What’s Next?

Christoffer's ambition is to put more emphasis on the attractiveness of our investment opportunities by both improving the way we communicate towards investors as well as the financial return towards investors.

“My ambition is for us to come much closer to our investors with them in mind from the moment we start speaking with potential borrowers and every step of the way to present opportunities that better align with our investors' wishes.”

Looking to next year, Christoffer will focus on some of the successful new product launches of the year, the profit share investments enabling investors to have a unique direct return from the solar panels being installed. These offerings will better align investor returns with project success, amplifying both financial and social impact in the long run.
