Unilever's Commitment to Resilient and Regenerative Ecosystems

Unilever is deeply committed to fostering resilient and regenerative natural and agricultural ecosystems, recognizing their critical importance for both planetary health and sustainable business practices. At the heart of this commitment lies a profound understanding of the urgent need to reverse biodiversity loss, soil degradation, and escalating water scarcity worldwide.
The company acknowledges these challenges not only as global environmental imperatives but also as significant risks to its own operations, which rely heavily on and impact natural systems throughout its value chain. By prioritizing regenerative agriculture practices, Unilever not only aims to benefit nature but also seeks to bolster community resilience against climate change while enhancing the resilience of its supply chains.
Unilever's strategic goals are structured to enhance its role as a responsible custodian of nature. This includes eliminating deforestation from its primary deforestation-linked commodity supply chains and restructuring its global agricultural infrastructure to promote sustainability. Moreover, the company is dedicated to regenerating agricultural systems, thereby safeguarding soil health and biodiversity, and addressing water challenges within and beyond its operational footprint.
The firm has set ambitious targets to achieve these goals by 2030, such as verifying 95% of key crop volumes as sustainably sourced and implementing regenerative agriculture practices on 1 million hectares of agricultural land. Additionally, Unilever aims to protect and restore 1 million hectares of natural ecosystems and implement water stewardship programs in 100 water-stressed locations globally.
Unilever's approach to protecting and regenerating nature is multifaceted. It involves substantial investments in infrastructure and technology, collaboration with suppliers and industry partners, and advocacy for regulatory frameworks that promote ecosystem protection and regenerative agricultural practices. By leveraging its influence across various sectors and engaging closely with stakeholders, Unilever aims to maximize its positive impact on the environment while ensuring sustainable and resilient business practices for the future.
