“Experienced Americans” are the fastest-growing part of the population in the US: 10,000 people a day pass the 60-year mark. As Third Act says on its website, there’s no way to make the changes that must be made to protect our planet and society unless this generation brings its power into play.
On March 21, Third Act members and all 60 years old (and more!) are taking the streets for a National Day of Action to demand banks stop funding climate chaos. The action is following the Banking on Our Future pledge where thousands close their accounts, cut up their credit cards, and boycotted Bank of America, Chase, Citibank, and Wells Fargo to protest against their investments in fossil fuels. Now they will be protesting in over 100 events across the United States to show the power of the "boomer generation".
"As a generation, we have unprecedented skills and resources that we can bring to bear. Washington and Wall Street have to listen when we speak, because we vote and because we have a large—maybe an overlarge—share of the country’s assets. And many of us have kids and grandkids and great-grandkids: we have, in other words, very real reasons to worry and to work."
I love the initiative and I agree, this generation has a lot to answer for and should be leading the protest if they cared about their children and grandchildren!
