"Speed Up Transition To Renewable Energy" - Pope Francis

Pope Francis has issued a compelling 7,000-word "Apostolic Exhortation" in which he calls on climate change skeptics and slow-acting politicians to expedite the transition to renewable energy. The Pope emphasizes that the undeniable human contributions to climate change and the scientific evidence supporting global warming cannot be ignored, especially as our planet approaches a critical juncture. He expresses concern that current efforts to combat climate change have fallen short and asserts that the world is witnessing the devastating consequences of environmental degradation. This document, titled "Laudate Deum" (Praise God), serves as a follow-up to his 2015 encyclical on the environment, "Laudato Si" (Praise Be). Pope Francis highlights the urgency of the climate crisis, citing extreme weather events as the Earth's "cries of protest" that have compelled him to issue this plea. He urges caution regarding excessive reliance on carbon capture technology, as it does not address the root causes of global warming. The Pope also challenges businesses and nations to prioritize long-term interests over short-term gains, recognizing the anthropic origins of climate change and emphasizing the need for decisive action at the upcoming COP28 climate conference in Dubai.
