A new, flexible, solid-state storage solution for green hydrogen

The UK start-up H2GO Power Ltd is patenting a compact, solid-state, nano-particle-based storage solution for hydrogen that is much safer and more convenient than bulky storage tanks. Arrays of individual H2 storage modules can be stacked into a unit the size of a standard shipping container, dispensing with the need for lithium batteries. Surplus renewable energy is directed to an electrolyser on a daily or seasonal time scale. The green hydrogen produced is stored and released on demand under the control of the company's AI-based software. The aim is to create a lighter, cheaper and longer-lasting, utility-scale energy-storage system, with a larger capacity than Li-ion battery systems, making it ideal for microgrids. H2GO's invention is being trialled as part of the energy self-sufficiency programme at EMEC (the European Marine Energy Centre) in the Orkney Islands, Scotland. https://www.h2gopower.com/ https://www.theengineer.co.uk/h2go-power-to-trial-hyai-system-at-emec/
