Perennially snow-capped mountain in Uttarakhand completely barren for the first time

This might seem like a small piece of news as compared to big things happening around the world, but it is worth mentioning all the same. Om Parvat, a mountain located in Uttarakhand, India, which has always been snow covered since people remember has had a no-show-snow this year for one whole week! The amazing thing about this mountain was that the snow always looked like it was spelling the word ‘Om’ in Hindi. That’s where it got its name, and it has always been a major tourist attraction.

However, for the first time ever, people were surprised to see there was no snow for one whole week on the mountain top! The snow might have come back after a week, but we can’t ignore the fact that stranger and stranger things are becoming the norm with each passing day. Everyday we are having to get used to a new normal which is not so normal, or comfortable, to anyone. It seems like the climate is changing drastically day by day, and we are still not prioritizing climate above all things. Read more about this here:

Thanks for highlighting this sad but important news. Himalayan mountains are very close to my heart. I was in a boarding school nestled there before Uttarakhand became a state, from 1993 until 2002 : the nature was beautiful until then, Dehradun had not become the capital city. Mountain tourism needs to be reigned in to respect nature. Climbers Skiers, campers and trekkers.. but most of all the poorly regulated building and construction in the Mountains needs to stop immediately.

This is quite a indication of the kind of future that we are likely to have if we do not act Sooner and deal with the issue of climate change.

This is a sign on dangerous climate change effects we can expect going forward if we sit pretty and do nothing

The is a stark reminder of the impact of climate change. Such changes in long-standing environmental patterns are concerning & warrant urgent attention.
