Striving to align with green ambitions by balancing sustainability with rising household costs amid budget cuts,

France plans to reduce research funding for green technology to 1 billion euros in 2025, down from 2.5 billion euros this year, while increasing taxes on gas and electricity. Energy Minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher emphasized the need to prevent public funds from making fossil fuels cheaper than renewable energy, aiming for a balanced approach that protects purchasing power. The government’s budget, which includes 60 billion euros in spending cuts and tax increases on the wealthy, aims to address a growing fiscal deficit while supporting renewable energy initiatives.
I believe they made a prudent decision by reducing the allocation rather than eliminating it entirely. This approach allows for continued investment in green technology while addressing immediate fiscal challenges, ensuring that the transition to sustainability remains viable without placing undue strain on households.
