NEW STUDY: Bottom trawling releases as much carbon dioxide as the entire aviation industry Bottom trawling fishing vessels cause large disturbance to natures balance. Trawling the seabed leads to chocking release of carbon dioxide, on levels with those of the entire aviation industry according to a new study published in the journal Nature. Something that can have far-reaching consequences for both biodiversity and the climate. Only 7% of our oceans are protected against trawl fishing. The 26 researchers who participated in the study demand a greatly increased protection in the form of marine reserves, where bottom trawling is banned.
