The value of Cassava

The tuber(cassava)has been termed as food for the "poor" which is very sad. Its impact to the body is very significant, it is still considered a traditional food. Our grandparents used to grow them and use the cassava for several purposes like milling where we get flour. People should be reminded of such kind of foods because many have succumbed to fast foods and its not healthy leaving them vulnerable to disease. As Egerton seeks to boost its value we give them all the support they can get. Some of us just need to be reminded where we came from before all the money dictated lives.

Cassava holds a great significance for both nutrition and sustainable agriculture, which is crucial in the context of climate change. Cassava, a traditional crop, carries a rich heritage, but its importance has often been overshadowed by fast-food choices. Encouraging the cultivation and consumption of cassava not only promotes healthier diets but also supports sustainable agricultural practices, reducing the environmental impact associated with processed foods. As initiatives like Egerton Varsity work to enhance the cassava value chain, it's a reminder of the need to reconnect with traditional, climate-resilient crops in the face of modern challenges.

"Food for poor" needs to be re-marketed- often such foods are less processed, more sustainable and can be produced locally! Snobbery around food needs to be stopped!
