SIRPLUS helps save over 2 500 tonnes of food waste

In 2017, the founder of SIRPLUS Raphael Fellmer shifted from activism, engaging in a money strike and co-starting the Foodsharing network, to actionism by starting SIRPLUS, a company that helps save food systematically by rescuing it from being wasted. Together with their 700 partners they rescue food that is mislabeled, overproduced, nearing its expiration date, or doesn't fit the norms of retailers. Plus, the food wasted at farms contributes to a staggering 2.5 billion tons of food waste every year. If food waste were a country, it would rank as the third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases, following the USA and China. This ranking underscores the substantial impact of food waste on climate change. In other words, it is a crazy problem. This is why SIRPLUS has been recognized by the EU as 'the supermarket that rescues unwanted food - rescuing as a new way of buying' and by the World Economic Forum as 'This store only sells food waste - and it's saving the planet.' This initiative has been impactful for our planet, and Raphael has shown that he and his team can build a real business. With role models like Misfit Markets, valued as a unicorn, SIRPLUS shines amid the recession as a cornerstone business for German consumers, celebrating one record month after another. This effort has been awarded by the Financial Times, recognizing SIRPLUS as a Top 50 fastest-growing company in Europe. For a company that saves food, that's impressive. :) This shows that SIRPLUS has a very good chance to co-exist with companies like Too Good To Go, offering consumers more outlets to become part of the solution. But now, they need our help. SIRPLUS is raising its Series A funding round, presenting an opportunity for dedicated impact investors to put their money to work. Let’s help the great team at SIRPLUS reach this new milestone to put avoiding food waste at the center of society. Every dollar counts. Not only that, it is a smart investment in Planet, Profit and People.

This is great! What do they do? They just re-sell "expired" food?
