African Centre for Climate Actions and Rural Development (ACCARD)'s post

The traditional institutions and leaders have huge role to play in addressing the global climate crisis, emission reduction and net zero pathway. The growing hunger and poverty contribute significantly to the destructive behaviours just to mention deforestation and bush burning. Also, the resistance of local people and forest-dependent communities to conservation effort to protect forest areas. You can't blame them at all. Their livelihood depends on these forest areas - without providing them alternatives to their livelihood. It is impossible. However, the good news is that, they are still listen and obey instructions originating from their traditional institutions and community leadership. Therefore, empowering local community traditional institutions through training, integrating them in global climate governance, and importantly fostering socioeconomic development of local communities - offer lots of climate solutions at the grassroot. While the vulnerability of local communities and people to climate change risk has continued to increase. Most National (federal governments) are busy making global environmental commitments, developing policies that are never implemented. This climate scam must stop to win the global climate change fight. Do you agree?
