Fines Or Jail Terms For Failing To Segregate Waste At Household Level
People who fail to segregate waste at the household level will face a fine of Sh20,000 or a six-month jail term.
The Director of enforcement at the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) Ayub Macharia said a new law that is set to be enforced requires segregation of waste to make sorting, recycling, reusing, and reducing waste easier.
"Now we have put a penalty in the law that if you don’t segregate waste at the source, that is in our homes, then you are likely to be prosecuted and the penalty is Sh20,000," Macharia told the Star.

Hi, winnie nguru. Thanks for posting a climate review on our platform. However, this review should not be directed to NEMA, but to @national_environment_management_authority. The idea behind our climate reviews is to make companies and organizations aware that they could (and should) do better. If enough people agree to your review, we will contact the company and ask them to join the climate dialogue.

Amazing. This can lead to cleaner waste streams, making recycling and composting more efficient.
This is a strong measure to enforce waste segregation at the household level and promote responsible waste management.

@gorffly_mokua I agree it is one thing segregating the waste at the household level it is another when it comes to the garbage collectors and how they mix it in those trucks
