Worries and anger peak as Japan releases nuclear-contaminated water into the Pacific

Japan started the release of the Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water into the Pacific Ocean at 1p.m. on Thursday.

The release began more than 12 years after the meltdowns of three reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant that was heavily damaged by the massive earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan's northeastern coast on March 11, 2011.

I don’t understand how a country whose indigenous religion, Shintoism, considers nature to be inhabited by divinity, can treat nature like a commodity now.

For all those who hang their hopes on a renewal of nuclear energy to “solve carbon emissions in electricity production, THIS is the reality still of nuclear energy production: there is no “safe solution “ for the waste products! And the need for ample water supplies to cool the reactors cannot be assured as climate chaos whiplashes us through cycles of extreme drought and heat, and flooding rainfall.
