The environmental justice groups in Minneapolis, including the Minnesota Environmental Justice Table and other organizations, expressed their opposition to trash burning at a Hennepin County Board meeting and a subsequent rally against the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC). They held signs with slogans like "We Can't Breathe" and "Minnetonka & Edina: Stop Burning Your Trash in Our Lungs" to raise awareness about the issue. Advocates and residents in north Minneapolis are calling for the Hennepin County to close down the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC) by 2025. They're also demanding compensation for the communities affected by the HERC, which is situated near the industrial trash incinerator. Loretta Akpala, a resident physician at a north Minneapolis clinic, addressed the meeting and highlighted that the nearby trash incinerator emits harmful gases. She pointed out that this has resulted in numerous cases of respiratory diseases, particularly asthma, among patients at her clinic. https://www.mprnews.org/story/2023/08/15/environmental-activists-rally-against-hennepin-energy-recovery-center-trash-incinerator

HERC must take precautionary measures before their closure and further they must take full responsibility for all the negative impacts towards the victims of Minneapolis.
