The effects of climate change are happening now, hitting developing countries the hardest. It is frustrating to feel powerless, knowing that traditional solutions are not working fast enough. That is exactly why Trine was founded—to give people a simple, transparent way to be part of the clean energy transition.
In 2015, Sam Manaberi, Christian Genne, Christoffer Falsen, and Andreas Lehner set out to bridge the financing gap preventing more solar energy from being installed worldwide. Their vision was clear: connect investors with solar companies in emerging markets to create lasting environmental and social impact—while delivering financial returns.
Trine has reached a major milestone—€100 million invested in solar energy projects across 19 countries. From our first loan of €30,000 in 2016 to RVE.SOL for a project in Sidonge, Kenya, providing 50 households with electricity, to projects exceeding €1,000,000 with borrowers such as Talf Solar India Private Limited, the impact has been profound.
Real Change, Real Impact
This journey has never just been about numbers—it is about people. With 252 loans funded and 44 borrowers supported, we have helped scale solar projects that now provide electricity to over 3.1 million people. These investments have also prevented 1.2 million tons of CO₂ emissions, equivalent to the annual emissions of 350,000 Swedish residents (roughly half the population of Gothenburg) based on Sweden's per capita emission of 3.5 tonnes of CO₂ in 2023, as reported by Our World in Data, driving real change in the fight against climate change.
Trine’s financing has reached 19 countries across multiple continents, including:
- Africa: Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Nigeria
- Asia: Vietnam, India, Pakistan
- Latin America: Chile, Guatemala
And that is just a few. Our reach continues to grow as we support more borrowers and investors committed to clean energy.
Delivering Returns & Driving Impact
Trine makes it possible to earn financial returns while making a difference. So far, €66 million has been returned to investors. It is proof that sustainable investments can be both impactful and profitable.
A Global Effort, A Shared Success
None of this would be possible without the support of over 14,000 investors who believe in using their money for good. And behind every investment is a dedicated team—past and present—who have helped shape Trine into what it is today. Though we are currently a team of nine, many have contributed along the way, and their work has been invaluable.
Looking Ahead
Reaching €100 million is just the beginning. As we continue to scale, we remain committed to financing innovative solar projects, empowering communities, and driving the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
To our investors, borrowers, partners, and every Triner who has been part of this journey—thank you.
