What happens to the plastic that leaves Europe? Half of Europe's plastic waste is exported to several countries in the Global South, including Vietnam
04/09/2024 – The European Union has been implementing increasingly strict regulations over the years regarding the environmental control of its plastics. However, there is little oversight over the waste sent to other countries such as Vietnam, for example. A large part of this exported plastic cannot be recycled and ends up being discarded in nature. This is according to the conclusion of a study led by Austubh Thapa, from Utrecht University and published in Circular Economy and Sustainability. Read:
