Stockholm is rebuilding schoolyards to adapt to climate change

While the pupils were on summer holiday, construction was going full-speed in seven schools in Stockholm. In this project led by Stockholm's Education Administration, asphalt is being torn up and replaced with trees and greenery. The goal is both to create environments that can inspire outdoor play and schoolyards that are adapted to the climate with cooling greenery.
In a short video shared by SVT, you can see how large parts of different schoolyards, such as Sofia Skolan in Södermalm and Hjulstaskolan in Järva, are currently excavated and cordoned off, as the outdoor environment is being rebuilt to adapt to climate change and create a better environment for children.
"The asphalt will be replaced with newly planted trees and bushes - and flowers that will benefit biodiversity", says Malin Jönsson, project manager at the City of Stockholm. "We hope that schoolyards with, for example, climbing poles and bamboo tunnels will inspire boys and girls of different ages to play together."

To cope with the hard wear and tear of a schoolyard, hardy and resistant plants such as bamboo, salix and willow are planted. The greenery is supposed to provide coolness in schoolyards, which often become scorching hot in the summer.
This is such a great project and I hope Stockholm City will expand it to even more schools, do you have anything similar happening in your city or country?
