Day 621: March 22nd, 2021. The Southwestern portion of the United States is home to iconic landmarks like the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley, but Arches National Park is filled with natural landmarks of its own.
.
There are over 2,000 rock arches inside Arches National Park, with more forming (and collapsing) all the time. The sizes of the structures varies, but the longest (named the 'Landscape Arch') is 306 feet across, and the tallest (called 'Double Arch South') is just over 100 feet tall.
.
119 square miles of Arizona desert, the park not only protects stone structures, but 483 plant species, 186 bird species, and 52 mammal species. Of other protected wildlife, the park is also home to 4 species of endangered fish that live in the Colorado River. It's nothing compared to the amount of animal and plant species that live in the Amazon or other biodiversity hotspots, but just like other ecosystems - it deserves preserving.
