Ethiopia bans non-electric car imports

The time for Africa being Europe's dumping place for old cars is over! Ethiopia has announced a ban on non-electric car imports. This decision, driven by economic and environmental considerations shows the country's commitment to transitioning to electric vehicles (EVs) and reducing reliance on gasoline imports.
Alemu Sime, from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, highlighted the decision, emphasising Ethiopia's focus on electric mobility and reducing gasoline dependency due to limited foreign exchange resources. The government's efforts also include plans for EV charging infrastructure and tax exemptions for electric cars.
While specifics about the ban's implementation are pending, Ethiopia's proactive stance sets a clear direction towards sustainable transportation for East Africa!

If we don't adapt to Electric Cars, this will be the dumping site for the cars that are banned in European countries,we need to act now just like Ethiopia is doing.

I came across this news today in our local dailies, and its very encouraging! may the deadline 2035 you have set to achieve all this work out! This will really prevent the country from becoming a dump yard that will take generations to clean. Oil is a drug...its time for rehab! And we don't have time to wait! Good luck to the Ethiopian leadership.
