It's a precaution for energy emergency problems national and international obligations. Reducing electricity consumption is higher on the list. Homes and medical care are highest on priority. There is a lack of increasing low-ghg energy production by the regions in France and local elections haven't helped. France seems to be shifting towards the far Right with Le Pen and those type of parties. The COVID crisis also caused many delays in energy progress. Luckily FR uses a relative low amount of gas per person. The maintenance cycle of there nuclear fleet has had scheduling problems, hopefully it will increase capacity a lot before the winter time. This Winter we have to work together in Europe and also work hard on more accelerating projects for this decade.

@jehannes_ros yes, the situation in France is very worrisome. Regarding nuclear, EDF (the French energy company) plans that the nuclear capacity in 2023 will decrease again by 17%. We cannot rely on one source of energy, we need to develop wind and solar power

@marine_stephan to 17% doesn't sound right? Must be a reletsvev%. What your source for that.

@jehannes_ros EDF announced that the production will be lower than planned before for 2023, by (I think) -17% compared to 2019 (I should have explained more). See here: https://www.edf.fr/groupe-edf/espaces-dedies/journalistes/tous-les-communiques-de-presse/edf-ajuste-son-estimation-de-production-nucleaire-en-france-pour-2023 and https://www.latribune.fr/entreprises-finance/industrie/energie-environnement/edf-revoit-aussi-a-la-baisse-sa-production-nucleaire-pour-2023-903892.html and https://www.latribune.fr/entreprises-finance/industrie/energie-environnement/electricite-le-risque-de-coupures-est-tres-eleve-pour-l-hiver-prochain-contrairement-a-ce-qu-affirme-emmanuel-macron-921272.html

@marine_stephan ah yes the projection of what the annual TWh might be. It an inconvenient collision of availability. I mentioned it a bit in the post. It not so the type of technology, there is a historic, political and pandemic cause involved and on top of that a energy crisis event. France has to invest in updating there energy systems and consumption effeciency. Thx for the source. 👌

I was very skeptical of the re-election of Macron in April.Evaluating his consciousness as an environmental champion is no brainer to me.He is for "kill the planet, profit over planet" drawing from this case among others and worse of is his intensive backing of the terrible EACOP project being spearhead by Total in East Africa.

The choice was macron or far right, not a good option in any regard.
•

Our leaders are failing us.he should keep his word and try to reduce the use of fossil fuels.
•
•
•

It is the same in so many countries. Instead of saving energy if we lack clean energy, they are all going for more fossil fuels. All in the name of unlimited growth.
•
•
•
143 w
and it also seems that they don't invest more in renewable energies, while they should use this opportunity and crisis to do it
•
•

Macron is also talking about importing oil from Iran and Venezuela again, this are short term ethically questionable "solutions"
•
143 w
I barely have heard of him talk of renewable energy which sits better as a lasting solution.Leaders of his calibre are of the old days if only the french citizens knew it while casting their ballot about two months ago.It was about time they brought in a new leader with the right manifesto and focus on tackling climate change which is of great concern globally and which is capable of tearing down not just the world's economy but also lives catastrophically.

And apparently (according to a discussion between him and Biden), he has asked fossil fuel producers (in the Middle East) to increase their production...... he really doesn't get it...
