BPD DELIVERS FIRST HOMES WITH MATERIAL PASSPORT

BPD | As an area developer, Bouwfonds Area Development The Netherlands plays an important role in creating sustainable, new living environments. At the end of 2019, BPD signed a partnership with Madaster to provide 1,000 new-build homes with a materials passport. By registering the materials and products used in the home in Madaster, the land registry for materials, it is clear what the material, circular and financial value of a building is. This encourages smart design and encourages reuse of (building) materials. The first BPD homes with a materials passport were recently delivered. This concerns 94 owner-occupied homes and 33 social rental homes in the sustainable new residential area of Buitenoord in Wageningen. Buitenoord is located on the vast quiet area of the Binnenveld and is characterized by innovative energy and material use that has been implemented in all homes. Some of the homes are energy neutral. A good example of circular area development. However, what exactly is circular area development all about? What makes the new Buitenoord district so special in this area? And what is the added value of a materials passport? We discussed it with Arjen Kleijer (location manager BPD), Annelies Barnard (director/director of the Woningstichting), Anja and Maarten van Osch (buyers home Buitenoord) and Patrick den Boer (BIM Director Trebbe Wonen). WHAT IS BPD ABOUT IN CIRCULAR AREA DEVELOPMENT? According to Arjen Kleijer (location manager BPD), the focus on reuse is particularly important. Kleijer explains: “By using natural, recycled and reusable materials, we can reduce the waste stream. We also shape areas in which raw material cycles are closed at the desired scale level: district, municipality, region or national. The materials passport helps us to make conscious material choices. To use as many high-quality recycled raw materials as possible and to design homes in such a way that materials are reusable (remountable) in the future.” Read more: https://madaster.nl/bpd_materialenpaspoort/
