Tucson is planting 1 million trees to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change

Tucson is the second largest city in Arizona in the United States. Located in a desertic environment the city has decided to adapt to a changing climate by planting 1 million trees by 2030. With the Tucson's 1 Million Trees Initiative, Mayor Regina Romero aims to increase the city’s tree canopy and help mitigate the effects of climate change, including reducing the heat urban island effect. In 2020 the City Council declared a Climate Emergency that set Tucson on a path to carbon neutrality by 2030 with a set of different projects it's also part of the Race to Zero initiative the C40 Cities. Tucson's Climate Action Plan, also known as Tucson Resilient Together provides a strategic pathway to reach net-zero by 2030 and focuses on communities that are most vulnerable to climate change providing strategies that will assure that Tucson can adapt and be resilient. On top of planting a million trees, the city is developing stormwater infrastructure used to support tree planting and provide water to plants and parks as well as solve flooding issues. It's also equipping the city with EV chargers and infrastructure and solar panels on city-owned buildings, something the city has been a frontrunner with since the 1990s. Great job Tucson I hope you reach your goal and more! https://climateaction.tucsonaz.gov/

Arizona is a US state that is really suffering from the climate crisis - good to see them start to take some action.
