Claiming the Spotlight, Ensuring Accountability and A Call for Verified Accounts on We Don't Have Time

We Don't Have Time has risen as a beacon of climate action, amplifying voices and holding individuals and organizations accountable. Yet, a crucial piece in this accountability puzzle remains unaddressed: the lack of verified accounts for those receiving the most reviews. As a passionate member of the platform, I propose a vital initiative: Claiming the Spotlight, Ensuring Accountability.

The Current Challenge:
Many prominent figures, from politicians and presidents to industry giants and celebrities, currently have unclaimed profiles on We Don't Have Time. This creates a frustrating disconnect. Reviews directed at them become echoes in a void, their impact diluted by the uncertainty of whether the intended recipient even knows they exist.

Claiming the Spotlight:
I believe We Don't Have Time should implement a two-pronged approach to tackle this:
1. Verified Accounts:
I urge the platform to introduce a verification system for key figures, similar to other social media platforms. This verification could be achieved through established channels like email authentication, official website confirmation, or partnerships with relevant organizations. Verified accounts would be clearly marked, allowing users to review with confidence that their voices are reaching the intended ears.
For example, the pictured account has over a thousand reviews under Joe Biden's name and it's not the only Joe Biden account on the platform. This means over a thousand reviews have gone to the wrong account and will not be seen by the party they were directed to. Counterfeit accounts have to be rooted out to ensure the message reaches it's intended target which only derails our climate agenda.

2. Proactive Engagement:
I call upon We Don't Have Time to proactively reach out to key figures with significant unclaimed profiles. Inform them of their online presence and the potential for constructive dialogue. This outreach can be tailored to highlight the benefits of claiming their profiles, including receiving feedback, engaging with constituents or customers, and demonstrating a commitment to climate action.

The Benefits of Accountability:
By implementing these measures, We Don't Have Time can:
Boost the impact of reviews:
Reviews directed at verified accounts have a higher chance of being seen and addressed, potentially leading to more positive outcomes.
Promote transparency and dialogue
Verified accounts encourage open communication and engagement between key figures and the public, fostering informed debate on climate issues.
Enhance platform credibility:
A system of verified accounts strengthens the platform's reputation as a trusted source for climate accountability, attracting wider participation and influence.

Action Call
I urge We Don't Have Time to embrace this initiative and prioritize verified accounts for key figures. Let us not allow reviews to languish in the shadows; let us shine the spotlight on those who hold the power to make a difference. By ensuring accountability, we can strengthen our collective voice and accelerate the fight for a sustainable future.

I say it's time for accountability. It's time to Claim the Spotlight!
Let us make our voices heard. Let's make a difference. Together.

Hi Munene Mugambi, Thank you for your climate idea. As the Head of Climate Dialogue, I wanted to clear up some of your questions since you are addressing one of the key purposes of our platform: Accountability and transparency. Any time a review reaches the threshold of 50 agrees and we can find an appropriate recipient, the recipient will be asked to respond via email. This applies no matter which profile the review was addressed to - As long as you see a comment from We Don't Have Time acknowledging that the review has been passed on, you can be sure that it has reached the recipient. That being said, removing duplicate accounts has value since we want you to be able to see all reviews sent to a recipient on their profile. I'd be happy to receive any feedback on duplicate accounts to adam.wallin@wedonthavetime.org so we can remove duplicates. As for your second query, any time a profile is contacted to respond to a review, they are invited to claim their profile on our platform. We would love to be more proactive on this point, but as a small team, it is hard to reach out to everyone that we would like to. That is why each unclaimed profile has an "Invite recipient" option, where you as community members can help us proactively invite companies and people to claim their profiles. So find the profile for whoever you want to see verified on We Don't Have Time and send them an email to help us get more verified accounts on our platform. /Adam Wallin, Head of Climate Dialogue, We Don't Have Time

@WeDontHaveTime Thank you for this feedback. @munene_mugambi, and all others concerned. I support your views, but behind mask our team do alot, they keep sending emails to the right recipients, but some ignore to claim accounts especially if review is ⚠️, further more some public figures are not the ones who handles everything in the nature of their work, so some are being handled by their offices or their public relationship department, etc, and that's why we us we don't have time for accountability and transparency if account is not claimed we indicate it publicly, but still I find it okay to send important reviews to such accounts, hoping one day they will claim their accounts for example for governments, etc despite their failure to claim accounts, I believe they know what's revolving on toward them, despite ignorance to claim it, and furthermore it educates over our 100,0000 members in the world of what's going on, through such reviews. Information is power and at the end of the day, it accelerates climate action. But we will continue pushing! My thought and views.

@patrick_kiash Thank you for your thoughts, I believe that in order for us to improve the platform and get it the recognition it deserves we need to be impeccable in our dealings or; our reviews and accounts. This ensures that we are also attractive for others to join our platform and accountability can be achieved. Also, it means no one can claim they have not received the reviews incase their social media team do not read and forward the emails to the targeted person and or group.

@WeDontHaveTime Thank you for your reply Adam. I applaud the move to reach out to recipients of reviews once they reach the threshold set. My issue on this would be, there are reviews that may not meet this threshold due to a reason or two and this does not render the review irrelevant. It is important for the addressed person to see it and they may not be aware of this issue, they can respond and or act on it with or without the threshold being achieved. This cannot be accomplished if the reviews are sent perhaps to the wrong account at the moment. On the issue of duplicate accounts, all leading figures have more than one account set up on the platform. This is from politicians, companies, notable people et al. There's more than two accounts for figures and companies like; Biden, Macron, Total, Shell, William Ruto, Coca Cola amd many others as these are just a few examples. On unclaimed accounts, I'd suggest a proactive approach to help you get accounts claimed by the owners. WDHT has set up offices in several countries. How about we start with these countries offices running campaigns online and on the ground where they try to get people to claim their accounts and have targets per month where an office can decide this month in our country we'll try to get five or ten accounts claimed and they can work around doing that. Invites don't always get to the targeted audience and it is imperative to take action to ensure we can make our platform impeccable and official. I believe with the tight measures in place, we can get s lot of these unclaimed accounts claimed to improve responses and ensure our messages get home. I'll certainly run a check on the site and come up with a list of accounts with duplicates to give you somewhere to start off from in the journey to eradicate duplicates on the platform.
