For speaking the truth about Big Oil’s refusal to change

Christiana Figueres is a Costa Rican diplomat and world-famous climate negotiator. She served on the board for the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (the UNFCCC) between 2010 and 2016, and was one of the main architects behind the Paris Agreement.
In a recent opinion piece, written for Aljazeera, she speaks the truth about Big Oil, saying "it's now D-Day for them.”
For years, Christiana Figueres hoped the oil and gas industry would finally wake up and start taking responsibility for their actions. She was convinced the global economy could not be decarbonized without their participation and was therefore ”willing to support the transformation of their business model.”
Big Oil’s monster profits over the past 12 months have made her change her mind.
The industry has made trillions of dollars in profits, which could have been used to ”stepping away from any new oil and gas exploration, investing heavily into renewable energies and accelerating carbon capture and storage technologies to clean up existing fossil fuel use.”
But instead, these mega polluters are using this money to pay higher dividends to shareholders and invest in more oil and gas exploration.
”I thought fossil fuel firms could change, writes Christiana Figueres. ”I was wrong”.

One of the largest take ins, some of the largest corporates supporting Climate change are deep in the Oil industry. The shift of the paradigm is gradual and we have to accept that

I think the problem is oil corporations are so influential and it's hard to change long going narratives but we'll get there.
