New Mexico officials awarded a wind energy developer land this week for what will become the country’s largest wind project. The state’s public land commissioner signed 11 leases for tracts of state land totaling 147,684 acres across three counties to developer Pattern Energy Group LP — the largest lease deal for renewable energy development in state history. Collectively, the project will support at least 500 megawatts of wind power production, enough to power 196,211 homes for a year.
