The Elephant in the Room at COP26

Bernat AƱaƱos Martinez the co-founder and chief marketing officer at Heura Foods spoke at the UN climate crisis summit this week, he deplored organizers for not centralizing meat consumption in the debate. ā€˜Irresponsibleā€™ food choices, says Heura Foods ā€œAnimal meat is obsolete. It doesnā€™t make any sense in this century, itā€™s out,ā€ he said. But despite that, the food industry is one of the only global sectors that hasnā€™t evolved by taking meat off the table. In fact, itā€™s worse because of how we treat animals, he added. Martinez added: ā€œThatā€™s why itā€™s very surprising at COP26 that we arenā€™t debating this. Thatā€™s one of the main topicsā€¦food should be at the very center. ā€œIt is very irresponsible that beef is served at this restaurant, it doesnā€™t make any sense.ā€ ā€œCould you imagine going to a cancer conference and giving cigarettes out? It would not make any sense. Weā€™re at a climate emergency conference!ā€ You can watch his speech on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CV5o3mkKJDG/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link Co-founders Marc Coloma and Bernat AƱaƱos also found a unique way to shed light on the facts through projection mapping from George Square, an area of Glasgow long known for political events and activism, demanding world leaders acknowledge the environmental impact of the current obsolete food system. ā€œWith the support of our Good Rebel community, we decided to take a stand and unleash the ā€˜elephant in the room,ā€™ through large-scale projection mapping designed to raise awareness and demand change,ā€ said Food Activist and Heura Co-Founder Bernat AƱaƱos. ā€œOur goal is to not only gain the attention of the powerful government officials having closed-door conversations but also to empower people all around the world to vote with their fork. Because at Heura we understand that every meal is an opportunity to drive positive change on the planet.ā€ https://heurafoods.com

I would say it's Nuclear, a complete part of science is ignored and hindered!

I strongly disagree, Nuclear is completely unnecessary as we can use large scale energy storage solutions such as liquid metal batteries as one example to provide base load power to grid networks when the wind donā€™t blow and the sun donā€™t shineā€¦

@joel_courtidis_160 Then you are ignoring the IPCC. We can not ignore one tool because we prefer others. It slows down the transition away from fossil. You could turn it around do you think there are some fossil sources that shouldn't be eliminated, pick one? I don't think we can.affort.

@jehannes_ros nuclear energy creates a toxic waste product whereas the wide variety of innovate large scale storage solutions do not, besidesā€¦ this is completely irrelevant to this post.

I disagree. The food they serve at COP26 is probably the most sustainable food served at any cop. 80% is localy sourced. Most alternatives are vegan or vegetarian. All food have Their carbon fotoprint calculated and displayed. Yeah they serve a few meat dishes. But common. We are talking about 200 countries with different culture. We must respect that.

I am glad the food is more sustainable than previous COPs, however I think the real issue is that they serve meat at all, if the world leaders were really taking this climate crisis seriously they would lead by example and there would be no meat on the table. Or at least cultured cell-based meat instead, which is far less polluting and resource intensive than the animal raised flesh.
