Dubai bans single use plastic bags and products from January 1, 2024.

Dubai, under the resolution by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, is enforcing a ban on single-use plastic bags and products effective from January 1, 2024. The prohibition encompasses both plastic and non-plastic disposable items, including recycled products. Covered items range from single-use products to various packaging materials like plastic containers, thick bags, and those used for food delivery, fruits, and vegetables. The comprehensive ban aims to address environmental concerns and promote sustainable practices in the emirate. The ban on single-use plastic bags and products in Dubai applies to sellers and consumers, encompassing private development zones, free zones, and the Dubai International Financial Centre. However, certain exceptions include rolls of thin bags for specific purposes such as packing meat, fish, fruits, and more. Additionally, products intended for export or re-export, like single-use plastic shopping bags and disposable plastic items, are excluded from the ban.https://gulfnews.com/living-in-uae/ask-us/dubai-these-plastic-bags-and-disposable-products-are-banned-from-today-january-1-2024-1.1704096175941. https://www.khaleejtimes.com/uae/sheikh-hamdan-issues-law-banning-single-use-plastic-bags-in-dubai

Good! Plastic is made from fossil fuels so this is very good for the environment and lessens demand for petrochemicals.

This is a commendable decision, it will go a long way in dealing with plastic menace. How I wish more leaders across the globe could consider this decision by Sheik Hamdan Bin Mohammed.
