Subsidizing fossil fuels with more than $1 trillion

During the UN Climate Conference COP26 in 2021, world leaders agreed to phase out “inefficient” fossil fuel subsidies. So, how well have they succeded in doing so? Well, not so well, unfortunately. The amount of nmoney that the G20 countries poured into coal, oil and gas reached a record $1.4 trillion (£1.1 trillion) in 2022, according to the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) thinktank. Using taxpayers' money to fund our own destruction makes no sense. This madness has to stop.

The level of double speaking from our leaders is regrettable. This is surely unacceptable for real.

Giving a fuel subsidy to fossil fuels is encouraging and promoting the use of the same

@johnte_ndeto true instead of discouraging and saying no to fossils fuels

Same again! feels like betrayal of trust. How can we believe anything any leader says? We need transparency and accountability not empty promises and pledges.

Could it mean that more of these COP's don't yield much? This is a big blow

@rosebellendiritu, I think you're right. The COP's need to be re-invented in order to become a catalyst for real change.
