Most plastics worldwide are generated by large companies
09/19/2024 – Only five large companies account for the largest percentage of plastic production worldwide. According to plastic tracking data, 24% of all plastic comes from the food and beverage and tobacco sectors, namely: Coca-Cola (11%), PepsiCo (5%), Nestlé (3%), Danone (3%) and Altria (2%), according to data from the scientific journal Science Advances. Another 50% came from 56 other companies. An alarming fact is that the remaining 52% could not be traced back to their brand of origin, due to the lack of data on production and labeling, which makes traceability difficult and thus the accountability of companies.
