June 2024, the hottest June on record 🚨

June 2024 set a new record for global surface air temperatures, averaging 16.66°C, surpassing the previous high from June 2023 by 0.14°C. This marks the thirteenth consecutive month of record-breaking temperatures. ⚠️ If this is not making you panic, I don't know what can.

The month was 0.67°C above the 1991-2020 average and 1.50°C above the pre-industrial average. Europe saw its joint second-warmest June, with southeastern regions experiencing extreme heat. Globally, high temperatures affected areas including eastern Canada, the western U.S., Mexico, and Brazil.
Sea surface temperatures also hit record highs for the fifteenth month in a row as seen on this terrifying map below.
