Climate warning

Engie voluntarily releases hundreds of thousands of cubic metres of gas into the atmosphere.

Engie’s subsidiary Storengy has voluntarily released hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of gas (methane) into the atmosphere during a maintenance operation. For this subsidiary alone, about 2.5 million cubic meters of gas would be wasted each year! ⚠️ Methane is a greenhouse gas at least 30 times more polluting than CO2. Since the Industrial Revolution, methane is responsible for around 30% of the rise in global temperatures. According to a study by the IEA, global methane emissions from the energy sector are about 70% greater than the amount national governments have officially reported. There is a “climate emergency, but the company doesn't talk about the emergency, it talks about profits" an employee says to RMC. This gas could be recovered, but Engie and Storengy choose not to! Engie needs to put a stop to this economic and ecological aberration! The reason behind the leakage is "security" to avoid explosion, but they could recover the gas, but "it takes time, and time is money"... this is very depressing
