Electric public transportation has been striving in Delhi, India since 2010!

While the whole world is discussing their transition into electric vehicles, India’s public transport system has been one step ahead all along.

Three-wheeler electric vehicles, or e-rickshaws as they are famously called, have been running in Delhi since 2010! Presently, over 120,000 e-rickshaws are operational in India’s capital city alone. These were launched to replace pollution-causing modes of transport such as auto-rickshaws that run on fossil fuels and are doing a great job even today, helping thousands of people each day commute around the city. So much so that Delhi is now facing issues of unregistered e-rickshaws doing the rounds. However, with the implementation of a proper law in place, this minor traction can be resolved in no time. Looking at the bigger picture, e-rickshaws are the eco-friendly solution to public transportation in crowded cities all over the world.

It’s impressive to see how Delhi has embraced electric public transportation through e-rickshaws since 2010! This innovative solution significantly reduces pollution while providing an essential service to commuters. As the city continues to tackle unregistered e-rickshaws, enhancing regulation will only strengthen this eco-friendly initiative and serve as a model for other urban areas worldwide.

Indeed, while electric public transportation is a positive advancement, the reliance on coal for electricity generation in India is still a major concern on overall emissions. Transitioning to renewable energy sources is essential for maximizing the environmental benefits of electric transport and achieving meaningful reductions in pollution levels.
