“THE OVERTAKE” ⚡‼⚡
Renewables will finally become the largest global source of electricity! This is significant because, until now, combining wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, and bioenergy still didn’t surpass coal in power generation.
“King coal” remains dominant in many regions, particularly in China, India, and Indonesia, home to over 3 billion people. However, the global landscape is shifting due to the rapid deployment of renewables, especially in China.
As the chart shows, renewables’ leadership is due to their growth, not the decline of traditional sources—coal remains resilient, and gas and nuclear are increasing.
We also need to degrowth coal and gas in order to "make it".
