Kristine Tompkins donates 93,492 hectares of land to create the southernmost national park

Great news for Chile, South America, and the world! The Chilean President Gabriel Boric has accepted a donation of land from Kristine Tompkins, the widow of American philanthropist Douglas Tompkins and founder of Rewilding Chile. The donation consists of 93,492 hectares of land in the southern region of Punta Arenas and will be used to create a national park.

The area is home to the Kaweskar indigenous communities and includes Cabo Froward, the southernmost point of the American continent, which is home to endangered species such as the huemul and Magellanic penguin. The donation is part of Kristine Tompkins' ongoing efforts to protect and conserve natural areas in Chile. In response, President Boric thanked her and described the news as "very good" for Chile and the world.

A generous donation. But how does one come toon such large tracts of land when there are people with none ?
