How innovative data center cooling uses 80% less energy - and heats 11,000 homes

Data centers consume large amounts of energy, and nearly all of it ends up as heat. Traditionally, that heat has been released into the atmosphere. At the hyperscale data center in Odense, Denmark, Munters is helping change that – with the help of innovative cooling.
Munters' advanced indirect evaporative cooling system maintains the servers at the optimal operating temperature while capturing heat generated by IT equipment. Instead of simply rejecting the warm air outdoors, the cooling system delivers it as a usable heat source for the next stage of the energy recovery process.
The recovered heat is then transferred to the district heating system, where it is upgraded by other technologies and ultimately helps provide heating for approximately 11,000 homes in Odense.
