Illegal mining raises security, environmental concerns in Nigeria.
Illegal mineral extraction in certain regions of the country, conducted without the proper authorization from regulatory authorities, remains a source of ongoing security apprehensions.This situation has been attributed to the unfortunate occurrences of Nigerians and foreign individuals being harmed or abducted by criminal elements at mining sites in recent years. Likewise, due to the lack of supervision and regulatory oversight from the appropriate authorities, miners often work without proper guidelines, resulting in environmental risks and harm to the workers themselves.
