Puerto Rico program to bring low-cost solar and batteries to 30,000 households gains momentum

Solar Access Program by the Department of Energy (DOE), which seeks to offer affordable solar and storage setups to 30,000 low-income households in qualifying areas. Residents in Puerto Rico are now eligible to apply from 22 February this year. The program covers initial expenses, with households expected to contribute to ongoing maintenance costs, potentially balanced by reduced energy bills. Eligibility can be shown through enrollment in assistance programs or having household members dependent on medical devices.
Funded by the Puerto Rican Energy Resilience Fund, the Solar Access Program plays a vital role in enhancing energy resilience and easing the energy burden for vulnerable residents. Aligned with Puerto Rico's target of achieving full renewable electricity generation by 2050, this initiative not only meets immediate needs but also paves the way for a sustainable energy landscape in the region.
