Brazil’s Spix’s macaw birds threatened to be extinct by climate change

Climate change effects are a menace to the endangered species and the beautiful rare breed of birds known Spix’s macaws is no difference. The birds immortalized in the popular animated “Rio” films are now in danger of extinction if the government of Brazil doesn't act fast to protect this beautiful creatures.
Spix’s macaws are staring at extinction as survivors in Brazil's arid climate region. As written by AP News the drier conditions are a major concern that will affect this birds a great deal and a blow to their natural habitat.
According to Cromwell Purchase, a South African who is commited to ensure the endangered species are safe, this birds are at the verge of extinction. He says even though the birds are resistant to harsh climatic changes , if something is not done soon we might loose this beautiful creatures.
“A dry area only gets rain for a very short period of the year. A drought in that period might go an entire year before you’re going to get your next rain,” said Purchase. “The animals are adapted to harsh environments, but they are on the edge. Any small increment of change will decimate populations.”
In November, two federal research institutes released a study of rainfall water loss in plants and soil between 1960 and 2020. It showed that northern Bahia state, including Curaca, where the Spix’s macaws are trying to survive, is now consistent with a desert area. It also identified the expansion of semi-arid climate in the Northeast, where nearly 55 million people live.
This is a major concern and calls for action to more mitigation strategies in Brazil to save Spix’s macaws birds.
However there is a gleamer of hope after Curacao residents leased part of their land to aid in recovering of these beautiful creatures.

@elizbeth_gathigia Stronger enforcement of wildlife protection laws and international cooperation to halt the illegal trade of birds will be crucial in saving these species.
