European Council plans to restore 20% of nature by 2030 with new restoration law

The European Council has adopted a nature restoration law according to which measures will be implemented to restore at least 20% of the EU's land and sea areas by 2030. Setting this process in motion would also mean restoration of all ecosystems by 2050.

If the council is serious about this law, then it could be the flagbearer and guiding light to all other regions in the world as well. This move reflects that all hope is not lost yet and a lot can still be done to save our planet and its resources. The law is quite strict in the sense that it has legally binding targets and obligations for nature restoration in every section of the ecosystem, ranging from terrestrial to marine, and freshwater to the urban ecosystems. This new regulation is going to placate the impact of natural disasters and climate change, at the same time helping the EU fulfill not only its international environmental commitments, but also restore nature.
