Climate warning

Expired electric-car batteries to threaten Australian environment from 2030, experts warn.

A landmark university study commissioned by the Battery Stewardship Council and conducted by the University of Technology Sydney has issued a warning about the rapid adoption of electric cars in Australia. The study highlights that unless urgent action is taken to address the increasing amount of expired batteries, the environment could be at risk starting from 2030. By 2050, it is estimated that over 4.1 million tonnes of electric car batteries could enter the waste stream, posing significant environmental and safety concerns. Presently, Australia's limited battery recycling infrastructure necessitates the shipment of broken-down components offshore for processing, further highlighting the need for effective and sustainable battery recycling practices.

This should be prevented at an early stage to prevent damage, In addition, a longtime solution should be thought about in such a way that we can produce the Ev batteries and know how to take care of them once they are expired, by recycling maybe.

This situation could be arrested before its too late. Australia is limited in the recycling capacity which can be boosted through investing on recycling facilities.

These batteries should be made much more sustainable to avoid them posing a threat to the environment

@edwin_wangombe Or Even a mechanism to be introduced where once expired they can be recycled for other purposes

Electric car batteries are given a second chance to Life by having them as solar energy storages and that outrightly solves this issue
