Maximize the benefits of green crowd-funding
A suggestion, particularly for American WDHT members who are suffering from feeling at the mercy of political roadblocks or malign corporations, and would like to pioneer more effective routes to change than protests that do not result in action.
In Europe, crowd-funding is proving to be a very powerful tool for channelling many small investments into green start-up companies that are are disrupting the recalcitrant big players. In the UK, we have a wide range of crowdfunding platforms, some that are entirely green (e.g. Abundance, Ethex, Energise Africa) and others that frequently host fund-raising efforts by innovative green technology and fintech start-ups, such as CrowdCube and Seedrs. Cumulatively, these crowd-funding platforms are channelling hundreds of millions of £ from small investors into green initiatives. In the UK, tax relief is available through various attractive schemes such as ISAs, SEIS and EIS. At the moment, there seem to be barriers to investors in some countries, notably the USA, making use of these or similar home-grown platforms. These barriers could be targeted and demolished, with the aid of visionary politicians and officials.
